HOWTO use a photo gallery.

There are many different ways to present your images on your website. The one that we find most appealing is http://gallery.menalto.com.

Gallery has many options that you can configure for your specific needs. We can install this on your site if you wish. Please Email our staff for more information. All installation instructions are available on their website, but we are working to make this tool for our customers. If you wish to install this on your site then please read and follow the following instructions:

1. Download the program to your computer.

2. Upload the program to your website, using cPanel or FTP (we recommend placing it in a special folder just for this installation.)

3. Click on the filename and choose "Unzip" from the options on the right side.

4. Navigate into the folders that have just been created to the folder called "Gallery" and create a file called ".htaccess" and "config.php" (without quotes).

5. Create a directory on your webspace called "albums". For the sake of simplicity, create this folder INSIDE the Gallery folder you are currently in. Gallery will use this directory to store the albums you create and the images you upload to those albums. This directory can reside inside the Gallery directory or outside the Gallery directory - your choice. Make note of where you create this directory.

6. Click on the "albums" directory and then click on "change permissions" on the right side. Click all nine checkboxes and update the file.

7. Click on the "config.php" file and then click on "change permissions" on the right side. Click the top six checkboxes and update the file.

8. Click on the ".htaccess" file and then click on "change permissions" on the right side. Click the top six checkboxes and update the file.

9. Click on the "setup" directory and then click on "change permissions" on the right side. Click all all three checkboxes in the first column and then the top and bottom checkboxes on the other two columns and update the file.

10. Navigate up one level so that you can see the "gallery" directory. Click on the file name and then click "move this file" from the right side options. Click on the "public_html" filename and then you are ready to configure your Gallery for your use.

11. Run the configuration wizard by going to

http://yourwebsite.com/gallery/setup/index.php

Once you've successfully run the Configuration wizard, Gallery will ask you to secure certain files before you can enter the Gallery. These are the same 3 files you applied permissions to above. This time you apply the permissions as follows:

".htaccess" Check the top two boxes in the left colum and only the top boxes in the other two columns and update the file.
"config.php" Check the top two boxes in the left colum and only the top boxes in the other two columns and update the file.
"setup" Uncheck all of the boxes and update the file.
